The Beutons are a self-described indie-pop retro band from Parranporth, England who have been gaining fame in their local scene since 2010. Their debut EP I Didn't Ask For It And I Don't Want It, released on March 1st, 2013 is a magical mix of genres with catchy hooks and clever lyrics. The Beutons wear their influences on their sleeve, showing off their knowledge of rock, reggae, country, and power pop in the span of this 4 track EP. Particularly notable is their Tom Petty influence, which is most apparent in the naming of their songs Last Dance With Mary Jane and Won’t Back Down (single).
All four songs vary in vibe, ranging from angst filled alternative rock and country in The Unthinkable, to that feel-good indie in So Young and One More Kiss. Despite the diversity, the EP retains a sense of unity with the transition between tracks flowing seamlessly over the course of the EP.
On their Facebook page, they claim that, “The Beutons are musical magpies hovering over music's finest eras you never quite know what you'll find in their nest, but it will be shiny and it will delight!” Which is exactly the experience that I Wasn’t Asked And I Don’t Want It gives the listener. Currently without a manager, they have released a few singles since 2013. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for The Beutons. Until then, I'll have I Didn't Ask For It And I Don't Want It on repeat.
